The Nearby Guarantee
Included with every rental, built in
The Nearby Guarantee is a discretionary goodwill payment scheme funded by Nearby.
It is not insurance, and any payout is at Nearby's sole discretion. It is not an insurance policy or a contract of insurance, and Nearby is not an insurer.

How it works
Every booking on Nearby includes the Nearby Guarantee at no extra cost - the same for everyone, with no paid tiers to choose. If the rented item is accidentally damaged or stolen during the rental period, Nearby may, at its discretion, make a goodwill payment to the lender of up to €2,000 per item, after the borrower's liability. Members may send their own photos of the item's condition as evidence.
Guarantee Terms
These are the plain-English terms of the Nearby Guarantee. They are the full picture - there is no small print beyond this page.
What it applies to
- Accidental damage to the rented item during the rental period
- Theft of the rented item during the rental period
What it doesn't apply to
- Normal wear and tear
- Cash, documents, and items of that kind
- Consequential or indirect loss (for example, lost earnings while an item is repaired)
- Anything not rented through Nearby
Per-item payment cap
Payments are capped at €2,000 per item, applied after the borrower's liability. If your item is worth more than €2,000, a Guarantee payment will not match its full value - keep that in mind before lending it. Payouts are based on the item's market value at the time of the rental, not its price when new.
How to claim
Report within 48 hours of return
Go to your dashboard and tap "Report an issue" at the bottom of the page within 48 hours of the item's scheduled return. Describe what happened and include the date and time.
Send evidence within 10 days
Within 10 days of reporting, send us any evidence you have, such as your own photos of the item's condition, receipts, and a repair quote. For theft, include the Garda report reference number.
We review
Our team reviews the evidence, contacts both parties, and makes a fair determination at Nearby's discretion.
Resolution
If approved, the lender receives a goodwill payment, up to the €2,000 per-item cap, directly to their linked bank account.
The Nearby Guarantee is not insurance. Payments under the Guarantee are made at Nearby's discretion under these terms.
